Obituary

Francesco (Frank) Patrick Rocco, 82 , of Lawrenceville, GA, and formerly of McMurray, PA and Martins Ferry, OH passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007 at St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital, Howell, MI. Frank was born in Martins Ferry Mar. 17, 1925 the son of the late Vincent and Rosaria M. (Zitari) Rocco. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Isabell Marie Rocco, a son Frank Patrick Rocco, and a sister Rose "Honey" Rocco. Frank started his career as a carrier for the Times-Leader and in sales at the Baker Shoe Store. In his senior year of high school and through college he worked for Wheeling Steel. Frank graduated high school in 1943 and received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Ohio State University in 1951 in Industrial Engineering. He received an academic scholarship at Ohio State University and achieved recognized accomplishments such as Society of Sigma XI, Tau Beta Pi, President of Alpha Pi Mu and installed Alpha Pi Mu at Penn State University. He was a member of TEXNIKOI, President of an on campus Tower Club and member of the Pistol Team where he was awarded Expert Medal from the NRA. He accepted a position with PPG Industries Chemical Division at the New Martinsville, WV location. He progressed to Chief Plant Engineer and installed the first removable disc computer, before being promoted to PPG Headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. He managed the design and installation of the companies first order entry system. He retired in 1984 from PPG Industries and continued his career working for the IRS in Atlanta, GA until the age of 75. He was living with his youngest daughter for the last 2 years in Lawrenceville, GA. Surviving are his children Vincent A. Rocco of Spring, TX, Christine A. Rocco of Raleigh, NC, Elaina M. Rocco-Hoxie of Howell, MI, and Barbara Rocco Wright of Lawrenceville, GA, and 7 grandchildren. Family and friends will be received Sunday, 12-3 and 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 at 10:00 am at St. Marys Catholic Church, Martins Ferry with Rev. Thomas A. Magary officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Rosary devotions will be recited Sunday at 2:30 pm followed by Wake services at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or St. Marys Catholic Church. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
