Gene Nelson "Satch" Mattern Sr., 79, of Bridgeport, Ohio, passed Monday March 13, 2017 at East Ohio Regional Hospital. He was born April 29, 1937, a son of the late Hugh B. and Loretta Mills Mattern. Gene is a retired employee of Blaw Knox, a veteran of the U. S. Navy and the U.S. Army In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Robert Mattern and a great-granddaughter Emma Rose Vaughn. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Margaret "Peggy" Ullom Mattern; a daughter Penny (Bill) Harris, a son Gene (Michelle) Mattern Jr. , all of Bridgeport; grandchildren: Beth (Nate )Vaughn, Gene (Andrea) Mattern III, Kimberly (Bobby) Harris, Stacie (Austen) Cordery, Kellie Mattern, great-grandchildren: Zoe, Haley, Sami, Eli, Ayvah, and Knoelle. Friends will be received Thursday 2 to 8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, OH, where services will be held Friday March 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
