Eugene R. "Gene" Montgomery, 77, formerly of Colerain, OH, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at Liza's Place Hospice Care Facility, Wheeling, WV. He was born June 9, 1936 in Proctor, WV a son of the late William and Emma (Alman) Montgomery. Gene was the owner/operator for 25 years of the former Montgomery Roofing of Martins Ferry and retired from Kalkreuth Roofing of Wheeling. He was a member of Roofers Local #188, a longtime member and past president of the former Martins Ferry Rotary and a former member of Lancaster Chapel Methodist Church where he was very active. Gene also enjoyed his time at Pine Valley Sportsman Club. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers; Elmer, Earl, Larkin, Philo and Lawrence Montgomery and his beloved dog "Middie". Surviving are his wife, Jo Anne M. (Roxby) Montgomery, his daughter, Marla (Lonnie) Moses of Arcadia, OH, his son, Jay Montgomery of St. Clairsville, a brother, Paul Montgomery of Benwood, WV, a sister, Pearl (Bill) Schafer of Port Huron, MI, nine grandchildren; Jamie Stenger, Brittany Montgomery, T.J. Montgomery, Brandon Eugene Thomas Montgomery, Angela and Christa Clemons, Kayla Rousch, Alicia Nickles and Christopher Moses and two great grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held, Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Maggie Carr officiating. Burial follows at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.
