Genevieve "Gen" (Sako) Shemenski, 96, formerly of Deep Run, OH and Mount Vernon, OH passed away on December 14, 2015 at Parkside Village Retirement Community in Westerville, OH. She was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Lucy's Catholic Church in Tiltonsville, OH. She retired from Imperial-Clevite Corp. in Bridgeport, OH. Gen was born in Deep Run, OH, April 24, 1919, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Groch) Sako. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Shemenski, three brothers, Mike, Anthony, and John Sako, and a grandson, John W. Shemenski Jr. Gen loved her family, the Pittsburgh Steelers, fishing, and bingo - but, not necessarily always in that order. It was her annual gift to bake, decorate, and give one dozen gingerbread men cookies to each member of the family at Christmas time. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Surviving are her sons, John W. Shemenski (Karen) of Fairborn, OH, and Richard A. Shemenski (Sharon) of Westerville, OH, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. Friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Saturday, December 19, 2015, 2-4 & 6-8 pm where services will be held Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Tom Marut officiating. Burial follows at Upland Cemetery, Yorkville, OH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gen's name to the Shemenski Foundation or VITAS Community Connection. The Shemenski Foundation was inspired by the life of John W. Shemenski Jr. and is dedicated to spreading the hope, courage and the determination needed to beat brain cancer.
