August 20, 1933 – December 11, 2015
George Becca, Sr., 82 of Martins Ferry, OH died Friday, December 11, 2015 at Liza's Place Valley Hospice South, Wheeling, WV after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 20, 1933 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Michael and Eva (Jurka) Becca. He was retired from the Martins Ferry Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel were he was employed for 37 years as a foreman in the shipping department. George is a Pease Township Trustee having served for 22 years. Because of his love of baseball he signed a minor league contract with the Phillies to play in Texas and Florida. He went on to become an active member of the Martins Ferry Civic Association where he was a coach and umpired little league baseball for many years as well as girls softball. He enjoyed golfing and upon retiring, worked as a starter at Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course in Mount Pleasant, OH. He was a Presbyterian by faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers; John, Frank, Charles, Mike Becca and Steve Keller, sisters; Mary Fox and Donna Jean Becca and daughter-in-law Diane Becca. Surviving are his wife of 60 years Patty (Armstrong) Becca, children; Michael (Paula) Becca of Wheeling, WV, George Becca, Jr., Dave (Terri) Becca, Patty Jo (Michael) Kinnan all of Martins Ferry, sister, Betty Hofmann of NY, eight grandchildren; Chad (Kayla) Becca, Brad Becca, Brenna Becca, Katelyn Becca, Kylie Becca, Kaleb Becca, Kristen Kinnan and Kevin Kinnan, great grandchildren; Mat and Kamryn Grimmett and Carter Becca and several nieces and nephews. George had many friends and he never knew a stranger. He shared a special bond with his friend and long time neighbor, Judy Hince who remained by his side until the end. Friends will be received Monday 2-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry where services will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 11:00 am with Minister Rod Kasler officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice, 10686 Ste Rte 150, Rayland, OH 43943 or Schiffler Cancer Center, 1 Medical Park, Wheeling, WV 26003.
