George L. Dupke, 83, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH died Thursday, Mar. 26, 2009 at Heartland-Lansing Nursing Home, Bridgeport, OH. He was born Apr. 26, 1925 in Martins Ferry a son of the late George L. and Grace (Whiteman) Dupke. He was owner/operator of the former Dupke Shoe Store of Martins Ferry. George was a avid tennis player for many years where he competed on a local basis. He was a member of the American Legion Post #38, Martins Ferry, and a veteran of the U. S Army, WW II. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Christy Smith and a brother Donald E. Dupke. Surviving are his wife Joan M. (Davis) Dupke, two daughters Vicki (Jerrold) Henery of Oregon, OH and Brenda (Walter) McMinn of South Fayette, PA, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday 12-3 and 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Monday, Mar. 30, 2009 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Richard Rothermund, Jr. officiating.
