George Melnick, 82, of Bridgeport, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 in Belmont Manor in St. Clairsville. He was born February 14, 1926 in Wolfhurst, a son of the late John and Amelia Mruzek Melnick. In additional to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Melnick; five brothers, Sgt. John Melnick who was killed in active duty while serving in World War II, Leo, Edward and twin brothers, Richard and William; and a sister Hilda Jackson. George was a 60 year member of the Bridgeport American Legion and the Bridgeport Eagles. He is survived by his daughter, Gina Melnick Palmer of Martins Ferry; a granddaughter, Marla Marlin of Bridgeport; three brothers, Fred Melnick and his wife Thelma of Bridgeport, Robert Melnick and his wife Ann of Cleveland, Jerry Melnick and his wife Susan of Cleveland; two sisters, Helen Vargo and her son Charles Vargo of Barton, Katherine McGuire of Lambertville, NJ. Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Reverend Don Upson, officiating. Interment to follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
