Obituary

GEORGE W. STARLIPER, 76, of Mingo Junction, died Monday, August 17, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville. He was born March 6, 1933 in Steubenville, Ohio. George was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Starliper; mother Dorothy (Kintosky) Drayer; step mothers Minnie Wuchetich and Edith Sharp-Conners; step father Charles Drayer; a brother Robert Starliper; infant twins Clarence & Clair; infant brother Gayle; and sister in law Sister Jovita Martinez. George retired as Director of the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency and was a Councilman for the City of Mingo Junction. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo Junction; the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 3rd and 4th Degree; a 4th Degree member of the #4361 Father Bigelow Assembly; a 4th Degree member of the Past Faithful Navigators; a member of the VFW Post #1400; the American Legion Post #0351; and was a veteran of the Unites States Army, 11th Airborne Division. He was stationed in Germany with the 373rd Air Infantry Battalion during the Korean Conflict. George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jobita "Punkin" Starliper of Mingo Junction; two brothers Donald Starliper of Steubenville and Neil Drayer of Waukegan, IL; four sisters, Cora Dorner and Martha Campbell both of Chicago, Karen McClure of Arizona and Charlotte Schroeder of Michigan; a brother in-law Ray Martinez of Steubenville; a sister in-law Margaret Smith of Mingo Junction; as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Blaschalk-Wilson Funeral Home, 115 Union Ave, Mingo Junction, where the Mingo Junction Knights of Columbus will hold Rosary services at 3:45 pm and Father James Dunfee will hold Vigil services at 8:45 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 am at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Father James Dunfee as celebrant. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery with full military services by the Wintersville VFW. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 204 St. Clair St., Mingo Junction, Ohio 43938.
