Dr. German Ortiz, 90 of Colerain, died Sunday October 6, 2013 at East Ohio Regional Hospital Martins Ferry surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 10, 1923 in Mexico City, Mexico, a son of the late Luis and Evangeline (Valencia) Ortiz. He was a member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church Colerain, a member of the A.M.A., the Ohio Medical Society, the Society of Internal Medicine, the Ohio Association of Internal Medicine, and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights Of Columbus. He graduated from medical school at the National Autonomous University of Mexico on August 9, 1951, he was sent to America by the Dean of the Medical School to specialize in the branch of medicine he wanted to be in. He decided to start with another year of rotating internship; which was done at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. He preformed a residency at Loyola University Clinics from July 1, 1952 to June 30, 1953. From then he went to the Alexander Blain Hospital in Detroit Michigan. They had accepted his application, he chose the Ohio Valley Medical Hospital in Wheeling West Virginia. He became the Chief Resident from 1958-1959. On July 1, 1954 (on a week's vacation) he elected to go to and see the largest city in the USA, New York City. In that week he met his Anna Nydia Cintron and because it was "Love at first sight" they became engaged and after three dates got married in New York City. He is the last survivor of eleven siblings. German is survived by the love of his life of 58 years Anna N. (Cintron) Ortiz, sons German L. (Nadine) Ortiz of Colerain, Charles W. (Lorraine) Ortiz of Grafton WV, Richard J. (Joni) Ortiz of Kentucky, and Robert M. (Denise) Ortiz of Morgantown, daughters Nydia "Nini" (Pat) Zadrozny of Wheeling and Rose M. (John) Jarvie of St. Clairsville, grandchildren German Gerard Ortiz, Patrick (Jess) Zadrozny, Lydia Zadrozny, Charlie (Michelle) Ortiz, Jodi and Ricky Ortiz, Amanda Ortiz and her fiancée Bryan Dickson, Lauren Ortiz, Ryan and Geena Jarvie, great grandchildren Kaydence and Trey Ortiz. Friends will be received at Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside on Tuesday October 8, 2013 from 6-8 pm, and on Wednesday October 9, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church Colerain with Fr. Dale Tornes as Celebrant, Entombment in Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Pleasant Grove. Wake service will be recited on Wednesday at 3 pm at the Funeral Home.
