Gloria M. Dawes, 22, of Adena, OH, loving daughter and cherished granddaughter, was killed in an auto accident Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011. She was born Nov. 5, 1988 in Wheeling, WV a daughter of Brian C. and Shelley (Pirozak) Dawes. Gloria was a senior at Ohio University in Athens majoring in special education and minoring in dance. She was a member and Vice President of the Students' Council for Exceptional Children and a member of the Sigma Alpha Lambda- National Leadership and Honors Organization, Ohio University Chapter. She is a member of St. Adalbert's Catholic Church, Dillonvale, OH. Gloria was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents James W. and June A. Dawes. Surviving in addition to her mother and father are her sister Rebecca M. Dawes at home, her maternal grandparents Robert and Marilyn Pirozak of Bridgeport, OH., several loving uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. Gloria was an adventurous and loving spirit who lived life to the fullest. She was talented, creative, and loved to dance. Gloria always had an open heart. She was encouraging and accepting to everyone she met. She adored her critters, especially Snow, Rufio, and Patches. She was a dreamer and a believer. Friends will be received Wednesday 6-8 pm and Thursday 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at 1:00 pm at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church, 33 Smithfield St., Dillonvale, OH with Msgr. John C. Kolesar officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gloria Dawes Dance Scholarship Fund, c/o Oglebay Institute Dance Dept., 1330 National Rd., Wheeling, WV 26003.
