Grover L. Smith, Jr., 91, of Martins Ferry, OH died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV. He was born Dec. 28, 1920 in McKees Rock, PA a son of the late Grover L. Smith, Sr. and Maude (Beck) Smith. He was a retired comptroller from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. Grover was a member of the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus both of Colerain, OH. Grover was also a member of the former Martins Ferry Rotary, former Colerain Ruritan Club and American Legion Post #38 of Martins Ferry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, WW II and retired from the Army Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Mary E. (Sonnett) Smith and a sister Loretta Fisher. Surviving are his wife Lucille (Mayer) Smith, two sons Grover L. (Susan) Smith, III of Coraopolis, PA, and Thomas J. (Pat) Smith of New Kensington, PA, step-children: Barry (Karen) Gasaway of Granville, OH, Bob (Cheryl) Gasaway of Reynoldsburg, OH, and Barbara (Bob) Sako of St. Clairsville, OH, two brothers Donald Smith of Port Arthur, TX, and Eugene (Rose) Smith of Castle Shannon, PA, four grandchildren; Leslie Schwartz, Brandon (Lisa) Smith, , Aaron Smith, and Garrett Smith, step-grandchildren: Noelle (Mark) Annetts, Eric (Maria) Gasaway, Michael Gasaway, Jami (Marty) Flannelly, Anthony Sako and Kyle Gasaway , eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Thursday, 4 pm until time of Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 7:00 pm with Rev. Dale Tornes officiating. Burial will take place on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 12:00 pm at the Resurrection Cemetery, Coraopolis, PA with full military honors.
