Grover C. Spencer, Jr. 83, of Martins Ferry, OH went to be with our Lord and Savior, Friday, April 23, 2010. He was born May 14, 1926 in Marion County, WV a son of the late Grover C. and Mable (Gilispie) Spencer. He was a retired meat cutter and coal miner. Grover was a Deacon of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Bellaire, OH and a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Florence E. (Bullard) Spencer and a son Gregory C. Spencer. Surviving are two sons James C. Spencer of Toledo, OH and Grover C. Spencer, III of Martins Ferry, four daughters Joyce (William) Brooks of St. Clairsville, OH, Janet (Willie) Ford of Bellaire, OH, Rowena (Shaheed) Cochran of Wheeling, WV, and Gloria Butler of Phoenix, AZ, a brother Rev. Houston Spencer of VA, seventeen grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren. Friends will be received Monday 5-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Additional visitation will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2010, 10am until time of services at 11:00 am at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Bellaire, OH with Pastor Robert Ellsworth officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
