Helen (Schmalstieg) Engle, 74, of Washington St., Bellaire, OH died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at home. She was born July 31, 1934 in Wheeling, WV a daughter of the late Henry and Charlotte (Gillingham) Schmalstieg. She was a retired employee of the Yorkville Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry, OH. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John E. Engle, and a brother Henry Schmalstieg, Jr. Surviving are a son Thomas R. (Donna) Engle of Warwood, WV, three daughter Char (Tim) Nickerson of Bellaire, OH, Brenda Cain of Colerain, OH and Debbie (Kenny) Kalo of Martins Ferry, ten grandchildren Jason and Josh Willcox, Brian Engle, Laura Brady, Jennifer Nightengale, Megan Nickerson, Danial and Kelly Cain, and Kenny and Audrina Kalo, and ten great grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday 12-3 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at 10:00 am at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry with Rev. Thomas A. Magary officiating. Burial follows at Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Rosary devotions will be recited Sunday at 3:00 pm in the funeral home.
