Helen M. Sommers of Stuarts Draft, VA, formerly of Colerain, OH, died at Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes, Stuarts Draft, VA on December 15, 2018, at the age of 90. She was born on July 18, 1928, the eldest daughter of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Nippert) Forni of German Ridge Rd., Beallsville, OH.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles Sommers of Colerain, OH in 2009; two sisters, Eula (Forni) Clark of Fort Ann, NY, Jessie (Forni) Spalding of Rush, NY, and a brother, Floyd Forni of Jerusalem, Ohio.

She was a member of Colerain Presbyterian Church, Colerain, Ohio where she served the church in a variety of auxiliary groups and loved making hot dishes and desserts for church and community functions from fresh vegetables and fruit grown in the Sommers' garden. She was an extraordinary homemaker sewing and quilting; as well as cooking, baking, canning and freezing all varieties of produce. Local residents driving along Route 250 knew where to look for the freshest vegetables and fruit from their little roadside stand. Despite several chronic health problems, she lived life to the fullest devoted to family and hard work.

Surviving are her son, Ronald (Kay) Sommers of Fishersville, VA. Also surviving are three brothers, Charles Forni of New Martinsville, WV, Dale Forni of Dundee, OH, and Paul Forni, of Beallsville, OH, and two sisters, Thelma (Sue) Ebert of Jerusalem, OH and Dorothy (Dot) Frank of Woodsfield, OH.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dennis Hatter and her caregivers at Stuarts Draft Christian Homes for the excellent care that they provided her.

Friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Friday, December 21, 2018 from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Joe Ellis officiating. Burial follows at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.
