Obituary

Helen M. (Harding) Briggs, 92, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH died Tue., May 1, 2007 at Forest Hills Retirement Community, St. Clairsville, OH. She was born Oct. 2, 1914 in Bridgeport, OH a daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Woods) Harding. She was retired from the former Marx Toy Factory. Helen was a member of the First U. Methodist Church of Martins Ferry where she was actively involved for many years as a Sunday School teacher and with the U. Methodist Women in the kitchen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Evert L. Briggs, Sr., a son Raymond O. Briggs, seven brothers, Paul, Walter, Leroy, Frank, Oliver, Lawrence and Sherwood Harding, four sisters Margaret McCloud, Mildred Lyle, Mary Elizabeth Ghent and Gertrude Moore. Surviving are her sons Evert L. (Cherokee) Briggs, Jr. and Thomas A. Briggs both of Martins Ferry, a brother Willard Harding of Bridgeport, Ohio, two sisters Betty Tracy and Etta Helms both of Martins Ferry, five grandchildren Stacy and Diana Briggs, Evert L. Briggs, III, Michael Briggs and Briget Briggs, eleven great grandchildren Austin Orum, Tyesha Allen, Thomas Jones, Ryan, Alex, and Leah Briggs, Cassidy and Johnny White, Madison and Collin Briggs, and Demitris Ellsworth. Friends will be received Thurs. 2:30 to 4:30 and 7-9 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, where services will be held, Fri., May 4, 2007 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Van D. Fisher officiating. Burial follows in Weeks Cemetery, Bridgeport, OH. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First U. Methodist Church, Third & Clay St., Martins Ferry, OH 43935. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
