Helen M. Poland, 88, of Flushing, Ohio, died Friday, May 16, 2014 at her home. She was born February 17, 1926 in Morristown, Ohio, daughter of the late Dennis B. Gatten and Martha Sells Gatten. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Helen's family was her life and greatest happiness. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Poland; sisters, Rose Racketa and Virginia Welsh. Helen is survived by her daughters, Paula (Skip) Hawthorne of Brunswick, Ohio and Connie (Paul) Harris of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren, Donnie, Ryan, Dana, Kelli; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jane (Leo) Ridenbaugh of Warsaw, Ohio, Faye (Fred) Wells of Barnesville, Ohio, Shari (Gene) Magnani of Belmont, Ohio; brother, David (Marlene) Gatten of Morristown, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Helen's wishes were for a private Graveside Service to be conducted at Holly Memorial Gardens with Pastor Bob Merritt officiating.
