Ivan I. Smith, 82, of Bethesda, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab, after a long illness with heart disease. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on May 25, 1932 to Rueben Smith and Beulah Barton Smith Moore.
Ivan is survived by his wife, L. Marlene Masters Smith. Together, they enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage.
Ivan, a man of many talents, retired from International Harvester and Dresser Cub Cadet, where he had worked as an Area Sales Manager and managed Kennedy Equipment in Wheeling. He was a realtor for Harvey Goodman Realtor, and worked for Ohio River Contracting/All American Homes, as a salesperson.
He achieved the example of a well lived life, which was apparent to all who knew him. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and was an avid Steelers fan.
Ivan will be missed by his children, Teresa (David) Schafer of Bethesda, Ohio, Brenda (Jim) Connor of Westfield Center, Ohio, Tim (Monica) Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio; his nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Andrea) Schafer, Justin Schafer, Ashley, Dustin, Travis, and Megan Connor, Haley, Hanna, and Hope Smith; his three great-grandchildren, Brady, Luke, and Claire Schafer; and his sister, Alma Jackson of Lafferty, Ohio.
Family and friends will be welcome to visit, Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m., Kelly Kemp Braido & Patron Funeral Home & Crematory, 322 N. Main Street, Bethesda, Ohio. A graveside service will be conducted, Friday 1 p.m., Chestnut Level Cemetery, Belmont, Ohio.
