James P. Giannirakis, 87, of Copley, OH, and formerly of Martins Ferry, OH, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Sumner on Ridgewood, Copley, OH. He was born August 28, 1923 in Weirton, WV, a son of the late Peter and Amelia (Stamatolaki) Giannirakis. He was a graduate of Steubenville Business College. He worked at the former Tidd Plant and retired from the Cardinal Plant, both of American Electric Power. Jim was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Life Giving Fountain in Martins Ferry, the Yorkville Post #4811 V.F.W., and the A.H.E.P.A. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in WWII as a pharmacist mate. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sophia K. (Kolakis) Giannirakis and his brother Mike Giannirakis. Surviving are his daughters Amy (Larry) Baughman of Athens, IL and Carol (George) Pappas of Copley, OH, four grandchildren Brad (Amanda) Baughman, Colleen (Bob) Meadows, Nick Pappas and Marissa Pappas, and four great grandchildren, Taylor, Julia, Justin, and Jack. Friends will be received Thursday, October 14th from 5-8 p.m. at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 15, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Life Giving Fountain with Rev. Menelaos Papageorgiou officiating. Burial follows in Upland Cemetery, Yorkville, OH. Trisagion services will be held Thursday at 6:00 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Life Giving Fountain, 314 N. 5th St., Martins Ferry, OH 43935. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
