James Herman "Jim" Long, 84, of Beallsville, Ohio died Sunday, June 11, 2023 in Barnesville Hospital.  He was born March 31, 1939 near Quaker City, Ohio, a son of the late Earl and Dorothy Starr Long.

Jim was a proud US Army Veteran having served in Korea during the Vietnam War and he was an active member of American Legion Post #768.  He was a retired employee of the former ORMET Corporation near Hannibal, Ohio. Jim was a man of many talents and interests; he loved going to the Wheeling Island Casino and Racetrack and enjoyed watching hummingbirds and wildlife.  He was an avid Ohio State fan and everyone who knew Jim will remember the meticulous care and pride he took in simply mowing his lawn.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son, Vaughn Long on June 24, 2018; four brothers, Wayne, Jennings, Donald, and Charles Long; and a sister, Peggy Hollister.  Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lyda Long, with whom he celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary on June 8th; also his daughter, Vicki (Scott) Lohr of Sardis; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Cassady) Lohr and Leslie Lohr, Jessica (Tyler) Davis, Cody Good, and Colton Long; twin great-grandchildren, Tytus and Teagan Davis; a brother, Billie (Susie) Long of Massillon; also a special fur baby, Duffy Lynn; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Visitation will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home - Harper Chapel, Beallsville, Thursday, June 15 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm until the time of the funeral service 7:30pm with Pastor Herb Alexander officiating.  Full Military Honors by American Legion Post 768 of Beallsville will be presented at the funeral home at the conclusion of Pastor Alexander's message.
