James E. Morris, 73, of Rayland, OH, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, WV. He was born December 3, 1943 in Martins Ferry, OH a son of the late David H. and Rose (Balvin) Morris. Jim retired as a machinist and tool/die maker from the Martins Ferry Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Men's Brotherhood of Martins Ferry. Jim enjoyed coaching the Smithfield Spartan's Midget Football Team. He loved to build and fly model airplanes, fishing and to study his genealogy. Jim was also an avid Steeler's fan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Security Service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Morris and a nephew, Robert Lee Morris. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Barbara J.(Riser) Morris, daughters; Sheri (Jim) McElroy of Flushing, OH and Joyce (Rich) Bradley of Tiltonsville, OH, grandchildren; Abby McElroy and Caden McElroy, Sgt. Thomas McElroy, Emily McDiffitt and Alex McDiffitt, Anthony Bradley and Christiana (Devin) Harrison and a great grandchild, Liliana Harrison, brother, David (Ann Marie) Morris of Willoughby, OH, nephew, Chuck Morris, niece, Tracy Brown, numerous nephews and nieces and his dogs; Sophie and Happy. Friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Thursday, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and Friday, January 13, 2017 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Brandenburg officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH with Military Honors by the Belmont County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to; Belmont County Animal Rescue League, P.O. Box 115, St. Clairsville, OH 43950 or Valley Hospice, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43943 Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this posting.
