Obituary

James "Don" Perkins, 89, of Bethesda, Ohio, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab. He was born September 9, 1924 in Bethesda, Ohio, son of the late Paul R. Perkins and Mildred P. Powell Perkins. James was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bethesda and the owner/operator of Perkins Construction Company. He was a World War II Veteran, who served in the Army Air Corps and was a captain in the Air Force Reserve, showing his great patriotism. He served on the town council, was a volunteer fireman, and served as the mayor of Bethesda. He was past commander of the American Legion Epworth Post 90, a lifetime member of the Hazen Lodge, and a member of The Aladdin Shrine in Wheeling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marianne Perkins and his second wife, Dorothy Wallace Perkins. James is survived by his daughters, Pamela Perkins Davis of Bethesda, Ohio and Barbara Perkins (Stanley) Jackson of Hurricane, West Virginia; grandchildren, Jeffrey R. (Michelle) Davis, Jamie L. (Scott) Reed, Amy (Mitch) Bentley, Holly (Darrin) VanScoy; and nine great-grandchildren. Family and friends may visit, Thursday 4 to 8 pm, Kelly Kemp Braido & Patron Funeral Home, 322 N. Main Street, Bethesda, Ohio where the service will be conducted, Friday 1 pm. Reverend Tom Detling officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda, Ohio. A Masonic service will be conducted, Thursday, 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted, Friday, 12:45 pm at the funeral home. The family would especially like to thank Jimmy Powell.
