James G. Spoon, Sr., 83, of Barnesville, OH, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at his home. He was born April 2, 1931 in Colerain, OH a son of the late Grady W. and Anna (Walker) Spoon.
He retired as a heavy equipment operator from the Operating Engineer Local of Akron, OH. Jim was a member of Hawkins Muzzle Loading Club, National Rifle Association, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and the Ohio Gun Collectors Association. He was also a veteran of the U. S Army.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his former wife, Betsy A. (Reynard) Spoon, a son, Thomas Smith and his brother, William Spoon.
Surviving are his children; James G. (Joyce) Spoon, Jr. of Amsterdam, OH, Debra Dawes of Mt. Pleasant, OH, Robert (Rena) Smith of Atlanta, GA, his good friend, Sharon Doty of Bloomingdale, OH, sisters; Alberta (Roy Lucas) Padyjasek of Colerain, OH and Sarah (Clyde) Castilow of Bruceton Mills, WV, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and a great great grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm where services will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Joe Ellis officiating. Burial follows in Farmington Cemetery, Farmington, OH.
