Obituary

James Darryl Watts Sr., 64, of Martins Ferry, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, in the OSU Medical Center, Columbus.  He was born on February 15, 1957, in Martins Ferry a son of the late Will and Annalee (Roby) Watts Jr.  James was a devout member of the Tree of Life Worship Center, was a basketball coach, trainer and mentor for the Ohio Valley youth for many years.  He was an avid fisherman and loved the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Lakers, but his passion was helping young people achieve their goals in life.  James loved his community and was lovingly referred to as Uncle D/Coach Watts in the area by so many close friends.

He is survived by his 2 sons, James D. Watts Jr. and Chase Watts; siblings, Eugene (Debra) Rainbow, Michael Roby, Gloria Jean (Ed) Gracie, Terry Lynn Watts and Brenda Lee (Fred) Owens; grandchildren, Mia Jordan, Malik Jordan, Kenya Jordan, Marquez Jordan, Daelaun Roseberry, A'rayah Watts and James Watts III; 2 great grandchildren, Maleah Jordan and Landon Jordan and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Maurice Jordan and 2 sisters, Annette Fitzhugh-Carter and Glenda Watts-Heath.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2-8 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home, Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 am in the funeral home with Reverend James Agnew officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
