Wetzel
June 4, 1944 – August 8, 2022
James Wetzel, 78 of Martins Ferry passed away peacefully at The Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling. He was born June 4, 1944, in Wheeling the son of the late James H. and Mary Regina (Fitzsimmons) Wetzel.
He was retired from the Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation-Yorkville Plant with 47 years of service. Jim was a member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Colerain, a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was a die-hard Notre Dame fan and loved more than anything to be with his grandchildren watching them grow up and play sports.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Ann (Romish) Wetzel, a brother Joe Wetzel, sister-in-law Susan Wetzel, and nephews Michael, David, and Dan Wetzel.
Surviving are his daughter, Michelle (Jimmy) Edwards of Martins Ferry and grandchildren; James (fiancé Hunter Gust), Megan (fiancé Casey Byrum) and Jordan Edwards, sister-in-law Joann Wetzel, brother Paul (Janine) Wetzel, Tom Wetzel, Marty (Carol) Wetzel, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 5-8 at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, August 12 at 11 am at the St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Colerain with Fr. Thomas Chillog officiating, burial to follow at Linwood Cemetery full Military Honors will be presented by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
