Jane Arda Lipphardt, 88, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, formally of Pierpont, Ohio and Martins Ferry, Ohio, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Jane was born on May 20, 1938, in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of the late Arthur R. Lewis and Velma A. (Sweet) Lewis - O'Donnell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E. Hughes Lipphardt in 1993, her grandparents: Dr. George W. Lewis and Nance (McArthur) Lewis, Raymond, and Hazel (Dean) Sweet, two infant brothers, and her stepfather, William R. O'Donnell, and her beloved fur baby Penny.
Jane was a graduate of Martins Ferry High School, class of 1956, and Muskingum University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, class of 1960. She began her teaching career in the Shadyside School District, where she taught second grade, from 1960 - 1967. Then in Martins Ferry School District, teaching second and first grade from 1967 - 1990, when she retired. Jane immensely enjoyed teaching and was very proud of her students, many of which she followed their accomplishments through the years. She also mentored and trained several student teachers, from three local Universities. She was an avid reader and great canine lover, throughout her life.
Jane was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where at one time, she taught V.B.S., sang in the choir, served as Deacon, and an Elder. She was also a member of The Order of Eastern Star, Retired Educational Organizations of NEA, and OEA.
Left to cherish her memory are her dear friends, Lucinda Starr and her sister Marsha, as well as a couple of cousins.
Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Jane to Grace Presbyterian Church, 7 N. 4th St., Martins Ferry, Ohio 43935 or Bethlehem Methodist Church, 58971 Vocational Rd., Byesville, Ohio 43723.
At Jane's request arrangements were entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home - Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, Ohio 43935. All services were private and held at the convenience of friends and family. Interment was at Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry, Ohio.
