John Thomas Bess, 74 of Shadyside passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Liza's Place.  He was born November 16, 1948,  the son of late John Thomas Bess, Sr, and Rosezell (Swallie) Bess.

He was a retired maintenance foreman for 52 years in the Coal Mining Industry.  John was a Christian by faith, a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict from 1967 to 1969.

John was a man of many interest and talents especially, watching car shows and restoring classic cars, manicuring his lawn and watching and feeding the humming birds.  However, his greatest joy was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna Kay Bess in 2021, and brother; Fred Asbury.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; John T. Bess, III of Shadyside and Stacey (Joseph) McCutcheon of Bellaire, grandchildren; Lilah Claire, Brittany (Chad) Nixon, Tiffany Leigh ( Nathan) Tinstman, great-grandchildren; Taylor, Abbie, Jordyn, Kasyn, Peyton, Caleb, Hudson, and Jessie, sister; Dean Murray of Bridgeport, and Charles Bess of S.C.  and his fur babies; Taz and Mitzi.

In keeping with John's wishes all services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
