John Mason Heilmeier Jr. October 5, 1952 - September 23, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Mason
Heilmeier Jr., who peacefully departed this world surrounded by his family
on September 23, 2023, in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was born on October
5, 1952, to the late John and Rosemary Heilmeier, and had always called
Wheeling his home. John pursued his education at West Liberty University
and the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his master's degree in
clinical social work.
Throughout his life, John dedicated himself to the well-being of his
community, serving as a compassionate public servant as a Licensed clinical
social worker at his private practice in St. Clairsville, Ohio, and
previously at Northwood Mental Health Systems. Among his many passions, his
profound love for classical and progressive rock music was especially
notable. However, this love never overshadowed the deep affection and pride
he held for his wife and three beloved children.
John Heilmeier is survived by his loving family: his wife Judy Heilmeier,
and three children Justin Heilmeier, Mike Sankey (Denise Sankey), Kristin
Heilmeier-Santos (Marcos Santos), his two grandchildren, Maya and Myles
Sankey, and his sister, MaryAnne Flachmeyer (Tom). He was preceded in death
by his parents, John and Rosemary Heilmeier.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Good Shepherd
Nursing Home and Valley Hospice for their kindness and support during this
challenging time.
John's memory will forever reside in the hearts of all those who had the
privilege of knowing and loving him. He leaves us with the profound words
of Ralph Waldo Emerson to remember him by: "The purpose of life is not to
be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have
it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in
John Heilmeier's honor to The Lewy Body Dementia Association or The Soup
Kitchen of Greater Wheeling.
A public memorial in honor of John Heilmeier Jr. will be held on October
7th from 2 to 4pm at Wilson Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Ohio. 920 National
Rd Bridgeport, OH 43912. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend
