Obituary

John P. Lucas, Jr., 76, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Monday, December 1, 2014 at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV. He was born April 19, 1938 in Martins Ferry, a son of the late John P. Lucas, Sr. and Genevieve (Tybuszewski) Lucas. He retired from the Martins Ferry Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Martins Ferry and the United Steelworkers Association. He was an honorary member of Vigilant Engine Company Martins Ferry Volunteer Fire Department and an avid fisherman. John graduated from St. John's High School of Bellaire, OH and was an eight year veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Diann L. (Scott) Lucas, his children; Dr. Jacki (Jim) Mowbray of Chandler, AZ and John (Shannon) Lucas, III of Grove City, OH, a brother, David (Bernie) Lucas of Martins Ferry, grandchildren; Kristin and Noah Mowbray and John Lucas, IV, and his beloved dog Hannah. Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Wednesday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry with Rev. Tom Marut officiating. Burial follows in St. Mary's Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Wake services will be held Wednesday at 7:45 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2215 Citygate Dr., Suite A, Columbus, OH 43219. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book below.
