John E. Miller, 84, of Martins Ferry, OH died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry after a long illness. He was born July 22, 1923 in McMechen, WV a son of the late George Edward and Leona Miller. Mr. Miller was also preceded in death by two sisters Edna Maruca and Barbara Lyons and his beloved dachshund Heidi. Surviving are his devoted wife of 62 years, Mary Lou Miller; one daughter and son-in-law Becky and Steve Szabo of Follansbee, WV; a son John Eighme Miller and his wife Denise of North East, PA; a brother and sister-in-law Chris and Judy Miller of Wheeling, WV; six grandchildren Tracey (Chris) Welch of Follansbee, Susan (Jeff) Bergman of Canton, GA, Stephanie (Joe) Sampson of Hermitage, TN, Jon Duffy Miller of North East, Becky (Joe) Repko of Perrysburg, OH, and Zane Miller of North East; two great grandchildren Kelaen and Olivia Welch and Baby Bergman due in 2008; many nieces and nephews including Gloria Shoemaker, Linda Zeik, Phyllis Barnhart, Laurie Pollock, and Christian Miller. Mr. Miller retired after twenty years with Prudential Insurance as an agent and a manager. He began his career in retail and worked over twenty years as a buyer for the former Hub Department Store of Wheeling. He was an avid Mountaineer fan and was hopeful he could get to a WVU game this fall. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and had served on the Vestry. Friends will be received from Noon to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007 at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry. Services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 611 Walnut St. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John P. Brandenburg officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
