John Cooper Oliver, 83 of Bridgeport passed away Monday, December 16, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. John was born November 13, 1941, in Wheeling, WV the son of the late Ernest and Elsie (Cooper) Oliver.
He was retired from Institution Food Sales for John Sexton and Company and Gordon Food Service. He wanted to serve the Lord and went into the ministry and served as the interim minister for the First Baptist Church of Martins Ferry and then served 9 years as the minister to the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Bloomingdale, OH. and was a veteran of the United States Army
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline (Duane) Patterson and brother and sister- in-law, Ronald (Bonnie) Oliver.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sylvia (Logan) Oliver, children, David (Stacey) Oliver, Bryan (Janine) Oliver, Karen (Charles) Eddy, grandchildren, Alex (Mackenzie) Oliver, Zach Oliver, Jonas and Zane Eddy, Brenna Oliver, great-granddaughter, Marcella Oliver, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 4-7pm at the First Baptist Church, 306 Locust St., Martins Ferry and Friday, December 20, 2024, from 9-11, where Funeral Services will be held at 11am the church with Pastor Larry Lewis and Dr. Brad Oliver co-officiating. Military Honors will be presented at 12 noon following the funeral service by the Belmont County Veterans Association. Burial will follow at the Weeks Cemetery in Bridgeport, OH.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations can be made to the First Baptist Church, 306 Locust St., Martins Ferry, OH 43935 or the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 301Mount Moriah Rd., Bloomingdale, OH 43917.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home – Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut Street, Martins Ferry, OH 43935.
