Obituary

John E. "Johnny" Russell, Sr., 67, of Martins Ferry, OH died Sat., Sept. 16, 2006 at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, WV. He was born Aug. 1, 1939 in Martins Ferry, OH a son of the late Harry S. and Bertha M. (Mowder) Russell. He was retired from Consol Energy and was a member of the First Christian Church of Martins Ferry. John's love for music covered some 50 years originating as co-founder of the Country Kin Band and more recently as the lead guitar player for the Streamline Band. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Roy and Paul Russell and a sister Betty Restutek. Surviving are his wife Dora M. (Anderson) Russell, two sons John E. "Ed" (Brenda) Russell, Jr. of Smyrna, TN and Tim (Michele) Russell of Murfreesboro, TN, a daughter Debbie (Tom) Washburn of Sabina, OH, a brother Harry Russell, Jr. of Lansing, OH, three sisters Mary McBride and Lillian Meyers both of Martins Ferry, OH, and JoAnn (Jim) Kluskey of Carrollton, OH, six grandchildren Ashlee, Tommy, and Andrew Washburn, John E. "Trey " Russell, III, and Timmy and Jacob Russell, and two step grandchildren Matthew and Haley Mills. Friends will be received Wed., 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Friends will then be received Thurs., Sept. 21, 2006 from noon until time of services at 1:00 PM at the First Christian Church, Martins Ferry, OH where Minister Rod Kasler will officiate. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Pre- School, 710 S. Zane Hwy., Martins Ferry, OH 43935.
