Obituary

John Shemenski, 90, of Deep Run, Martins Ferry, OH passed away on Wed., Aug. 31, 2005 at Laurels of Mount Vernon Nursing Home. John (referred to as "Pop" by his immediate family) was born Aug. 24, 1915 in Martins Ferry, OH a son of the late Frank and Agatha (Sharek) Shemenski. In his early working years, he was employed by Tri-State Asphalt and managed the Arctic Food Storage. Most will remember him for his proud achievement of being the first Water and Sewer Superintendent for the Belmont County Water System. After retiring from this position, he moved on to become the Water Superintendent for the city of Mingo Junction. He was a member of St. Lucy's Catholic Church, Yorkville, OH. Loving to tinker and capable of fixing almost anything, always ready to tell another wonderful story and taking special delight in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pop will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters Nell Rees, Theresa Vickers, Frances Migdol, and Mary Klus and two brothers Stanley and Andrew Shemenski. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Genevieve (Sako) Shemenski, two sons John William Shemenski and his wife Karen of Fairborn, OH and Richard A. Shemenski and his wife Sharon of Mount Vernon, a sister Anne Casshie of Martins Ferry, OH, two brothers Joe Shemenski of Newcomerstown and Walter Shemenski of Farmington, NM, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Friends will be received Sun., 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Mon., Sept. 5, 2005 at 10:00 AM with Msgr. George R. Coyne officiating. Burial follows in Upland Cemetery, Yorkville, OH. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in John's name to the Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter, 1 Marion Ave. Suite 308, Mansfield, OH 44903 or to the charity of your choice.
