John Solovan, 89, of Martins Ferry, died Tuesday April 8, 2008 at the Wheeling Hospital. He was born October 30, 1918 in Moundsville, WV, the son of the late Mark and Effrocina Achinko Solovan. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Martins Ferry, The American Legion in Bridgeport and the Elks Club in Martins Ferry. John was a retired auto mechanic with Sam Yanen Ford in Moundsville WV In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Dorothy M. Solovan. John is survived by a son Judge John Solovan, II and his wife Kathleen of Belmont, OH; two daughters Deborah Mihalik and her husband Joseph of Findlay, OH and Donna Solovan Gleason and her husband William of Trinity, FL; a sister, Ellen Calvo of Bogota Columbia; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a step great grandson. Visitation will be Thursday 4 - 8 pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside, where Rosary services will be held at 4 pm and Vigil services at 7:45 pm. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Friday at lO am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Martins Ferry with Father Thomas Magary as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Martins Ferry. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to SMC 2000 or St Mary Catholic Church, 20 N. 4th Street Martins Ferry, OH 43935. Full military services will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of the American Legion.
