Joseph A. Bazar, Jr., 93, formerly of N. 5th St., Martins Ferry, OH died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 at Sienna Pointe Nursing Home, Pleasant Grove, OH. He was born Aug. 29, 1914 in Bellaire, OH a son of the late Joseph A. Bazar, Sr. and Mary A. (Klein) Bazar. Joe was a carpenter by trade. Many people in the surrounding Martins Ferry area will remember him by the many home repair jobs he did during his lifetime. He worked as a steel worker, coal truck driver, and retired as a maintenance worker for the former Linsley Institute in Wheeling, WV. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days and liked to garden. He liked woodworking and anything mechanical. He was interested in politics and followed world events on television. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Wanetta M. (Doughty) Bazar, three brothers Frank, Charles, and Donald Bazar, and a twin sister Mary Shemenski. Surviving are a son Joseph A. (Xiaoling) Bazar, III of Colerain, OH, a daughter Dorothy (David) Garan of Beach City, OH, four brothers Raymond Bazar of Rayland, OH, George Bazar and Thomas (Evelyn) Bazar both of Martins Ferry, and William Bazar of Pennsylvania, four sisters Helen Doughty and Violet (Charles) Padgelak both of Martins Ferry, Delores George of Tiltonsville, OH, and Goldie Gray of Bellaire, OH, three grandchildren Georgann (Frederick) Kowalo of Canonsburg, PA , David (Maryjane) Garan of Strasburg, OH, and Scott (Melanie) Garan of Kent, OH, and four great grandchildren Jenna and Frederick Kowalo, and Nick and Michael Garan. Family and friends will be received Thursday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Friday, January 25, 2008 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Henry Mooney officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 471 E. Broad St., Suite 1630, Columbus, OH 43215.
