JOSEPH C. BEARD, 90, of Bellaire, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling. He was born February 2, 1919 in Bridgeport, the son of the late George and Mary Ann (Derry) Beard, Sr. Joseph was a member of the South Bellaire Methodist Church, the St. Clairsville American Legion and the Cave Club in Wheeling. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII and retired as an insurance salesman with Life of Virginia. He was an Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary member and was a security guard at the former Picoma Industries. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Velma Lee (Travis) Beard; a brother George Beard, Jr.; three sisters Irene Sutton, Ivy Duke and Ada Bonenberger. Joseph is survived by a daughter Joyce Hahn and her husband Robert of Salem, IL; a sister June Widmor and her husband Frank of Blaine; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday 4 - 8 pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 am. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove. The St. Clairsville American Legion will conduct full military services.
