Joseph A. Ecker, 95, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH and Wheeling, WV, died Friday, February 19, 2016 at Forest Hills Retirement Community, St. Clairsville, OH. He was born November 1, 1920 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Joseph S. and Ann M. (Sies) Ecker. Joe retired after 40 years of service as Manager of Underwriter's Adjusters. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Mother of God Council #1401 both of Martins Ferry. He was a long time member of the former Martins Ferry Rotary Club and past commander of American Legion Post #38 of Martins Ferry. Joe served on the former Draft Board #7 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, WWII. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lillian A. (Adams) Ecker and his brother Raymond H. Ecker. Surviving are his son, Craig M. Ecker and his wife Helen of Martins Ferry, grandchildren, Tammy Ecker of Moundsville, WV, Michael Ecker of Bellaire, OH, Amie Jo Ecker and Abbey Ecker both of Martins Ferry and four great grandchildren. Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Tuesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 20 N. 4th St., Martins Ferry, OH, with Rev. Tom Marut officiating. Burial follows in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV. Wake services will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Military Honors will be presented by the Belmont County Council of American Legions, Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. prior to services at church.
