Joseph C. Sonk, 87, of Scott Ave, Lansing , OH died Sun., Apr. 3, 2005. He was born Mar. 8, 1918 in Connorsville, OH a son of the late John and Margaret (Ziemba) Sonk. He was retired from General Welding, Martins Ferry, OH where he worked for 42 years, and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wolfhurst, OH, St. Joseph Choir, President of St. Mary's P.T.A., President of St. John's Booster, Bridgeport Eagles #995; and also active in numerous activities at St. John, St. Mary's and St. Joseph Catholic Churches. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Joseph Sonk, two brothers Stanley L. and John T. Sonk, and three sisters Mary Craig, Stella Balk, and Josephine Bowers. Surviving are his wife of 65 years Margaret (Czapp) Sonk, two sons Ron Sonk and his wife Pat of St. Clairsville and Denny "Whitey" Sonk and his wife Sheryl of Flushing, two daughters Carol Nedved and her husband Bob of Westerville and Margie O'Connor and her husband Mike of Shadyside, nine grandchildren Sue Nedved Hupp and her husband Joe, Bob Nedved, Tim O'Connor, Dan O'Connor and his wife Kristy, Matt Sonk, Jodi Sonk King and her husband Brad, Michael, Katie and Ryan Sonk and two great grandchildren Danny and Jennifer Hupp. Friends will be received Tues 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Wed., Apr. 6, 2005 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wolfhurst, OH with Msgr. Mark Froehlich officiating. Burial follows in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Martins Ferry, OH. Vigil services will be recited Tues., at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Wolfhurst Fire Department, Lansing Methodist Church, or St. Joseph Choir.
