Julia F. (Smith) Sykes, 84, of Martins Ferry, OH died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at her daughter's home. She was born Oct. 27, 1929 in Maynard, OH a daughter of the late George and Nellie (Rice) Smith. She was retired from the Times Leader, Martins Ferry In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Sykes and brothers; George, Roland, Ed and Theodore Smith. Surviving are her daughters; Luann (Keith) Hamilton of Freeport, OH and Loriann (Charlie) Thomas-Shanks of Warnock, OH, sister, Geneva "Jenny" Habig of Senecaville, OH, grandchildren; Brandy (Jack) Sall, Shelby Davis and Shannon Thomas, step-grandchildren; Kody and Kole Hamilton, and two great grandchildren; Avalyn and Everli Sall. Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. William O.
