Katherine "Honey, Kitty" Mae Silver Hayes, 82 of Bridgeport, Ohio passed away  July 8, 2020, at her daughter's home, surrounded by her family.

She was born February 2, 1938 in Wheeling, WV to the late Ira and Jettie Mae Silver and foster parents Walder and Mildred Sprout Morningstar.

Katherine was a very loving, witty, strong-minded and hard-working special lady.  She was determined and always spoke her mind, but had a heart of gold.  She loved going dancing, playing cards, and fishing.  She was the youngest of nine children and spent time at the Woodsdale Children's Home.  She was a member of many churches but was a Presbyterian at heart.  She worked at the Times Leader, Bridgeport Eagles and Foresters where she retired twenty years ago.  She was always feeding birds, stray cats, and deer, especially a deer she named "Wart Nose."

In addition to her parents and foster parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David T. Hayes; granddaughter, Capricia Griffith; brothers, Leroy "Pete," Ira Bert, Daniel "Danny," Charles "Soup Beans" Silver; sisters, Eleanor "Peg" Miller Garee, Virginia "Jennie" Kerns Stojak, Elizabeth "Betty" Shediak-Goetz, and Mary Rose "Ennis" Negri.

Katherine is survived by sons, Wyett "Rick" and Linda, Charles "Chuck" and Kathy Silver; daughter, Christina "Tina" and Thomas "Tom" Parsons; step-sons, David and Jeff Hayes; grandchildren, Jodi Lich, Erin Kanne, Richard Griffith, Natasha Parsons, Chad and April Silver and Shannon Gomez; seventeen great-grandkids; one future great-great grandson, Lukka Alexander; brother-in-law, Paul Negri; sister-in-law, Pearl Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Monday, July 13 at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Bridgeport, OH from noon until time of service at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Richard Griffith officiating.  Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.
