Kellis Harvey McCroskey, 94, of Belmont, Ohio went home to be with Jesus, Monday, October 3, 2016, at Belmont Manor Nursing Home. He was born February 19, 1922, on Hildom Rd. in Monroe Twp., Ashtabula County, near Pierpont, Ohio, son of the late Albert Kellis and Beatrice Irene (Smith) McCroskey.
Kellis married Nellie V. Butler on May 31, 1948, in Keyser, W.Va and lived in Belmont, Ohio, for over 40 years. Kellis was a graduate of Potomac State College, Keyser W.Va. in June 1947 with a Bachelor's degree in Vocational Agriculture and attended West Virginia University at Morgantown W.Va. Kellis was a Vocational Agriculture teacher in several high schools in W.Va. and Ohio including SkyVue H.S., Stafford, Ohio, and Union Local H.S., Morristown Ohio. He was an advisor for several FFA chapters. He also worked several years at Ohio University in St. Clairsville, Ohio, in facilities maintenance.
Kellis served in the U. S. Army Airforce 1942- 1946 during World War II, stationed in the Philippines.
Kellis was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church and was involved in many church functions including Board of Trustees, choir, church committees, men's group, and church construction maintenance. He devoted many years to The Manna Project.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Nellie; daughter, Hannah Lee; brothers Ellet Ivers (Wilma) and Gail Franklin (Geraldine); brothers-in-law Thomas Terlson and wife Judy, James and Fredrick Ball, and Fred Shine.
Kellis is survived by sons, William K. (Mary) of Solon, Ohio, Timothy A. (Linda) McCroskey of LaGrange, Ohio; daughter, Freda E. Neil of St. Clairsville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Megan Ann (Joy Feola), Colleen Terese (TJ Manion), Matthew Stanley (Children of William and Mary McCroskey); Benjamin James (Eva) Neil, Jonathan Mark (Dina) Neil, Rebekah Ruth (Malcolm) Crockett, Bethany Anne Neil (Children of Freda Neil); and Timothy Alan McCroskey, Jr., Brittany Ann McCroskey, Thomas John Prussak III, John Thomas Prussak (Children of Timothy and Linda McCroskey); 15 great-grandchildren: Peter Thomas, Anna May, Monica Lillian, Maddie Elizabeth, Molly Isabella (Grandchildren of William and Mary McCroskey); Justin Matthew Neil, Henry David Neil, Marah LisaJanae Neil, Rileigh Joy Neil, Levi Orion Neil, Malakai Xavier Neil, Julianna Bethany Crockett, Ava Marie Simone Crockett (Grandchildren of Freda Neil); and Jayden Alan Michael McCroskey, Hayden Ariana Renee Stevenson (Grandchildren of Timothy and Linda McCroskey); sister, Lucy B. Nelson of Jefferson, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Mona (Walter) Morris of Beverly Hills, Florida, Martha Shine of Spring Hill, Florida; brother-in-law, George (Earlene) Rosedale of Keyser, West Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
