Kenneth C. Robey, Sr., 69, of Martins Ferry, OH died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Ross Heart Hospital at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, OH. He died peacefully with his family at his side. He was born July 5, 1944 in Wheeling, WV a son of the late Melvin L. Robey, Sr. and Julia V. (Shreve) Robey. He was formerly with Valley Camp Coal Mine #1 of Triadelphia, WV for 23 years before eventually retiring from the maintenance dept. of Martins Ferry City School District after 19 years where he was President of the O.A.P.S.E union. Ken was a member of the Martins Ferry Civics and coached Little League Baseball for 12 years. He was an active member of the I.O.O.F. of Wheeling and served many offices throughout his tenure. He was also a member of Wheeling Encampment. He was an ordained Elder and Pastor at the Wheeling Community of Christ Church for numerous years before transferring to the Bellaire church. Surviving are his wife of 47 years Becky (Pontia) Robey, sons, Kenneth Robey, Jr. and Ryan Robey both of Martins Ferry, brother, Melvin (Claudine) Robey, Jr. of Stockton, MO, grandchildren; Doug (Kathy) Robey, Manda, Elizabeth, and Christopher Robey, a great granddaughter Aubrey Lynne and Don Serafini who Ken thought of as his third son. Friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Tuesday, 6-8 pm and Wednesday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm where services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 11:00 am with Pastors Frank Givens and Joy Leasure officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. I.O.O.F. will conduct services Tuesday at 7 pm and Martins Ferry Fire Dept. will conduct services Wednesday at 7 pm both in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community of Christ Church, Bellaire, OH. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
