Obituary

Leroy Grant Ray, 97, of St. Clairsville, formerly of Bridgeport, Ohio died Wednesday July 1, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 27, 1918 in Wheeling, a son of the late Roy St. Clair and Dora Lee (Thorn) Ray. He was a retired clerk for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company Martins Ferry Plant for over 35 years, a veteran of WW II in the Navy CBEE's, a member of the former Martins Ferry VFW, and Eagles. His interests included family, bowling in his early years, and planting beautiful flowers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Phyllis Jane (Waldo) Ray, two daughters Dianne Irene Cook, an infant Sylvia Jean Ray, three brothers Bernard, Frank, and Jack Ray, two sisters Nellie Mae Hanson and Genevieve Przelomski. Leroy is survived by a daughter Bonnie Jo (Kirk) Nolte of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Wheeling, WV, a sister Ethel Wanda Jalad of Murphy NC, three grandchildren Leta Rae Zemba (Dave) Slavik, Lisa Marie Gill (Robert) Walters II, and Kristin Nolte, four great grandchildren Drew and Trent Slavik, Caden and Joshua Carter McClements, also many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside on Sunday July 5, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm where services will be held on Monday at 11 am with Rev. Ted Boggs officiating, interment in Union Cemetery St. Clairsville. Full military graveside will be conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
