Lester A. Hughes, 76 of Martins Ferry passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023, at his residence.  He was born November 6, 1946, in Martins Ferry, the son of the late Lester and Josephine Hughes.

Lester was a retired Coal Miner and Insurance Underwriter, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Martins Ferry, the former VFW Post 3613, Foresters Club in Bridgeport, and the American Legion Post 3 of Moundsville, he was a Vietnam Veteran serving his country in the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary M. (Ritchey) Hughes in 2020, son Justin D. Hughes, and son in law George Knuth.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Corena (Jon) Mitchell of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Laura (Ken) Powaski of Twinsburg, OH, Erik Hughes Hughes of Seattle, WA, and Leslie Knuth of Jackson Twp., OH, brother Mark Hughes of GA, his grandchildren; Erin Chmielewski, Logan and  Brennen Powaski, Inara Hughes, great-grandchildren;  Riley Chmielewski, Owen and Austin, sister and brother in laws; Billie and Jack Regis, Sylvia and Larry Deaton and Diana Schell as well as several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.  Wilson Funeral Home – Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut Street, Martins Ferry is assisting the family.
