Margaret L. "Peg" (Gortner) Cook, 82, of Indiana St., Martins Ferry, OH died Wed., Feb. 7, 2007 at home after a brief illness. She was born Mar. 18, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA a daughter of the late LaRue and Bertha (Murray) Gortner. She graduated from both South Hills High School and the South Side Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh and became a RN. Peg was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry for 52 years. She belonged to the Lilac Twig of the former Martins Ferry Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Star of Smithfield, ISIS Chapter of the Oriental Shrine of North America, and the Women's Club of Wheeling. Above all she was an avid Bridge player. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Fred Wm. Cook, Jr., M.D., five children: Bob and wife Anne of Kansas City, KS; Carol Reed and husband Tom of Boca Raton, FL; Ron and wife Sue of Chillicothe, OH; Kathleen Olds and husband Dave of Taylor Mill, KY;, and Bill and wife Connie of Brighton, MI, two sisters: Ruth Oberfeitinger of Ellwood City, PA and Lois Easton of Greencastle, PA, six grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH, Saturday 6-8 PM & Sunday 12-3 & 6-8 PM where services will be held Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Bill N. Lawrence officiating. Burial follows in Muncy Cemetery, Muncy, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the ISIS Chapter of Oriental Shrine of North America. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
