Obituary

Marguerite "Peggy" Rice Stephens, 78, of Belmont, Ohio, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 2, 2017, with her family by her side. Born March 28, 1938 in Belmont, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Haradon J. Rice and Marguerite H. Major Rice. Peggy's love for her family easily shown in her daily life. A 1956 Belmont High School graduate, she was an avid Union Local and Ohio State Buckeye sports fan. She was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church leading a very active church life. Being very active in her community, she was a member of Station 17 Belmont VFD, Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, Weyer Centerville Order of Eastern Star, treasurer of Belmont County Jr. Fair Livestock Sale Committee, board member of Belmont County Mansion Museum, and past advisor and supporter of Belmont County 4-H. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Ned Stephens; son, Scott A. Stephens; sister, Marietta Martin; and brother, Dennis Rice. Peggy is survived by her sons, Mark and Melinda Stephens, Tadd and Missy Stephens all of Belmont, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Beth Stephens of Belmont, Ohio; grandchildren, Mark and Jill Reitter, Travis, Doug, and Madyson Stephens, Lauren and Noah Koch; great-granddaughter, Reese Reitter; brother, John I. Rice of Geenville, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome to visit, Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m., until the time of service beginning at 11 a.m., Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, 322 North Main Street, Bethesda, Ohio. Reverend Theresa Bobot and Pastor Dan Purdom officiating. Interment will follow at Belmont Cemetery, Belmont, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Belmont United Methodist Church, 129 West Market Street, Belmont, Ohio 43718, Belmont Fire Department, 100 West Barrister Street, Belmont, Ohio 43718 or Valley Hospice of Rayland, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, Ohio 43943.
