Mariza "Pete" H. Stingl Applegarth, 90 of Barton, Ohio died Sunday April 16, 2017. She was born October 16, 1926 in Vienna, Austria to the late Robert Alexander Stingl and Helen (Keller) Stingl. She was a member of the Harbor of Hope Assembly of God Church. Pete retired from the Colerain IGA, and had also worked as a real estate agent for Century 21. Pete's life in a book would make a best seller. Growing up in Vienna she vacationed in the Alps and travelled throughout Europe as a fencing champion. She heroically escaped from behind the Iron Curtain twice! First to make sure she could do it, the second time to get her daughter out. Pete was an animal lover and her and her husband bred Purebred German Shepherds for many years. She was an accomplished artist, having won countless awards and ribbons for her paintings at various art shows and exhibits. Pete also enjoyed buying and selling antiques, attending flea markets, and selling her treasures at her antique shops in Centre Market Wheeling, WV and Applegarth's Attic Barton, OH. She was an avid swimmer and loved spending time at the beach in South Carolina as often as she could. Pete was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Ladies Aux. to the VFW. In addition to her parents, Mariza was preceded in death by her children, Mariza (Ciley) Munas, and Robert (Apple) Applegarth. She is survived by her husband Fredrick Applegarth, grandchildren Christine (Dr. John) Bosi of Lake Harmony, PA, Natalie Munus (Marcus Farr) of Akron, OH, Dr. Amanda (Lance) Fisher of Barnesville, OH, and Dylan Applegarth of Belmont, OH. Great grandchildren Andrew and Luke Bosi, Kierra Farr, and Luke Fisher. A daughter in law M. Doll Applegarth. Visitation will be at Wilson Funeral Home in Bridgeport, OH Monday April 24th, from 4-8pm and services Tuesday April 25th at 11am, with burial at Linwood cemetery in Blaine, OH following.
