MARK HARRISON MATZ, 58, of St. Clairsville, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Wheeling Medical Park. He was born February 26, 1950 in Martins Ferry, the son of the late Chester and Delma (Hawley) Matz. Mark was the Superintendent of Bridgeport Exempted Village School District and was a member of Bridgeport Church of God. He was Past President of OVAC; was a member of both the Ohio and National Education Associations; the Bellaire High School Wall of Fame; he was a basketball coach at Bishop Donahue, Bellaire and Bridgeport Highs Schools and was inducted into the Ohio and West Virginia Basketball Coaches Halls of Fame. Mark is survived by his wife Anita (Fawcett) Matz; two sons Robert L. Wells of Cincinnati, OH and Scott D. Wells and his wife Shelli of Columbus, OH; a daughter Susan Matz-O'Leary and her husband Aaron of Port St. Lucie, FL; two sisters Marylyn Roseberry of Shadyside, OH and Delma Goff of Bridgeport, OH; five grandchildren Robert and Maggie Wells; Zackary DuLong, Isabella Wells and Cameron O'Leary; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday 4 - 8 pm and Sunday 1 - 4 pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside, OH. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4 pm at the funeral home with his nephew Reverend Kevin Roseberry, Associate Pastor of Bridgeport Church of God, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Mark dedicated most of his life to education and athletics in the Ohio Valley. As a result of this, his family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Mark Matz Athletic Scholarship Fund; c/o Bridgeport High School, 55707 Industrial Dr., Bridgeport, Ohio 43912.
