Mary Ann (Corvi) Gumiela, 89, of Martins Ferry, OH died peacefully Monday, Nov. 8, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV surrounded by her loving family, after a long, courageous battle with congestive heart failure. She was born June 6, 1921 in Martins Ferry a daughter of the late Ernest and Serafina (Martina) Corvi. Mary Ann was a retired employee of the Martins Ferry School system, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a long time member of Mackey Community Center, a life long resident of "Stop 4" and an avid Bingo player at Family Services and Wayne L. Hayes Towers.. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Frank "Chink" Gumiela, four brothers John, Joe, Tony and Junior, and a sister Emma. Surviving are her three daughters Carol (Lloyd) Hood of Martins Ferry, Fran (Jeff) Jarrett of Columbus, OH, and Mary Jo (Tom) Barr of Martins Ferry, eight grandchildren Lloyd Hood, Denise (Brad) Rinderer, Missi Hamilton, Shayne (John) Bauer, Jason (Gina) Barr, Neely Barr, Brent Jarrett and Travis (Terri) Jarrett; eight great grandchildren Brittany, Zachary, Andrew, Jacob, Julia, Parker, Blake, and Samantha; a brother Larry (Lena) Corvi and two sisters Ann Wisneski and Virginia DeFilippo all of Yorkville OH, many nieces and nephews,and all of her friends at Wayne L. Hayes. A special thanks to Norma, Nina, Rose, Linda and Pat. Mary's proudest achievement in life was her family. She was proud to be called "Grandma". She loved and adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love will forever live in family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who her heart has touched. She had the kindest heart and did many things for many people. To celebrate Mary's life friends will be received Thursday, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry with Rev. Tom Marut officiating. Burial follows in St. Mary's Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Rosary devotions will be recited Thursday at 3:00 pm in the funeral home.
