Obituary

Mary M. (Hutter) Crooks, 91, formerly of Seabrights Ln., Martins Ferry, OH died Wed., Jan. 7, 2004 at East Ohio Regional Hospital Long Term Care, Martins Ferry. She was born Mar. 2, 1912 in Martins Ferry a daughter of the late Michael T. and Maria (Gref) Hutter. She was retired from the former Selby Contracting Co. and a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church both of Martins Ferry. For many years Mary wrote monthly cooking columns for the Knedal Korner in the Saxon newspaper published in Cleveland, OH. She also helped to create the Mariechen's Saxon Cookbook in 1955. Mary's family and Saxon heritage held a special place in her loving and gentle heart. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Elva J. Crooks and two brothers William F. and Michael T. Hutter. Surviving are four nieces Michelene (Ron) Stewart of Point Pleasant, NJ, and Suzanne (Russ) Armstrong, Lucinda (Rick) Zeiher, and Mary Gene Berletch, all of Martins Ferry, and a nephew William F. (Jerri Sue) Hutter, II of Dublin, OH, and several great and great great nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH, Fri. 6-9 PM and Sat., Jan. 10, 2004 from 10 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM with Rev. Leland Eilert officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 40 N. Fourth St., Martins Ferry, OH 43935.
