Mary "Mernie" Eleanor Love Anderson-Porter of Colerain, OH formerly of Dorsch Rd., Martins Ferry died Fri., May 11, 2007 at her home. Mary was born Oct. 24, 1933 in Wheeling WV a daughter of the late Joel Mack Anderson II and Temperance Marconia Knight. She was a retired employee of Citizens Bank, Martins Ferry. Mary was an active member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Martins Ferry. She had served as a Delegate to Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly, was an Enabler and Past Moderator of Presbyterian Women. With her husband Clyde, she chaperoned youth mission trips, and also participated in a mission work camp in Mexico and was active in Marriage Encounter. Nominated by her six children, Mary was named "Mother of the Year" in the WWVA/WOVK listening area in 1988. She was also a longtime Girl Scout Leader and volunteer and has served as a Cub Scout Leader. Mary loved to make and collect dolls, camp with her family, cook, bake and host family gatherings. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father Fred Porter, a sister Ellen A. Anderson, three brothers Joel H., Charles E., George A. Anderson and her twin brother Franklin Delano Roosevelt Anderson, and a granddaughter Dawn Love Porter. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Clyde W. "Sonny" Porter, three sons Clyde W. "Chipper" (Sharon Lee) Porter, Jr of Colerain, James F. Porter of Bellaire, OH, Joel E. (Peggy) Porter of St. Clairsville, OH, three daughters Kathleen M. (Jim) Meeker of Colerain, Sharon Lynn Porter of Bellaire, and Molly Sue (Michael) Rouse of Martins Ferry, a brother Garnet F. Anderson of Tucson, Az, nine grandchildren James (Stacie) Meeker, Jr., Mary Ellen Gust, Patricia (Dennis) Morgan, Brian D. Porter, Kelle Sue (Bobby) Blount, Kim Bilica, Maura (Drew) Lattocha, Gretchen Lucas, Christopher Cramer, and twelve great grandchildren Kiersten, Logan and Hannah Meeker, Hunter Ashleigh Gust, Dakota and Collin Morgan, Trent Blount, Andrew and Aaron Lattocha, William Cramer, and Eleanor and Benjamin Lucas. Friends will be received Sun., 12-3 PM & 6-8 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral services will be held Mon., May 14, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Martins Ferry with Rev. Dr. Bill N. Lawrence officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Deacon Services will be held Sun at noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 400 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH or Valley Hospice, Inc., 132 Peters Run, Wheeling, WV 26003.
